The State Capitol is closed for the Capitol Renovation Project.

Welcome

Capitol Renovation Project

Team Kentucky is leading the first full renovation of the Kentucky State Capitol in more than 70 years. With a total project budget of $291.5 million, this once-in-a-generation effort will preserve and enhance the historic landmark for future generations. The renovation will modernize critical infrastructure, improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities, upgrade security, and introduce new safety features, including automatic sprinklers and fire-rated egress stairs. It will also enhance public and staff spaces and address decades of deferred maintenance. Throughout the project, great care will be taken to honor the Capitol’s historic, architectural, and cultural significance. The construction project is scheduled to be completed in 2029, but the timeline may adjust if additional needs are discovered.
